J. G. Wigmore
James Gregory Wigmore, B.Sc has worked at one of the foremost laboratories in North America, the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto, since 1976. He obtained his honors B.Sc from the University of Toronto in 1980. He is a designated analyst under section 254(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada. He has been a member of the national advisory board, the Alcohol Test Committee (which advises the federal Ministry of Justice on breath and blood alcohol testing) from 1993 to 2005. He has testified in over 600 criminal trials of various levels of court in forensic alcohol toxicology. He has published numerous studies, one of which received the H. Ward Smith Award, presented by the Canadian Society of Forensic Science for an outstanding research contribution. Currently, his most requested publication has been ‘A Simulation of the Effect of Blood in the Mouth on Breath Alcohol Concentrations of Drinking Subjects’ (Can. Soc. Forensic Sci. J., 35(1): 9-16, 2002). The Forensic Science Foundation published his bibliography of 2,300 citations in 1992. Since then he has critically reviewed and abstracted over 7,500 citations in an electronic database (ENDNOTES) and linked to the pdfs of the original articles. He was fortunate enough to qualify for early retirement in April 2005. He was the recipient in October 2005 of the most prestigious award of the Canadian Society of Forensic Sciences — the Derome Award — for recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of forensic science. He continues to actively update his database and testifies in civil cases and in criminal cases for the crown attorneys (prosecutors) in Ontario on a per diem basis. He has extensive experience in proper applications of published peer-reviewed studies for court.
