Robert H. Montgomery, Jr.

Rob Montgomery is Criminal Court Judge for the Second Judicial District, which comprises Sullivan County, Tennessee. He was elected to an 8-year term in 2006. Prior to his election, Rob served as an Assistant District Attorney General in Sullivan County for 19 years. For 8 of those years, he was the county's Highway Safety Prosecutor, handling in court more than 5,000 Driving Under the Influence (DUI) arrests. He later prosecuted a wide variety of felony and misdemeanor cases, everything from traffic offenses to first degree murder. While serving with the District Attorney’s Office, Rob served as an organizer of and adviser to Sullivan County's Fatal Incident Response and Support Team (F.I.R.S.T.). F.I.R.S.T. is a cooperative organization with representatives from three law enforcement agencies and the District Attorney's Office. The group meets on a regular basis with the goal of improving the response to, as well as the investigation of, vehicle crashes involving death and serious bodily injury that occur within Sullivan County. As an adviser to F.I.R.S.T., Rob regularly responded to crash scenes to provide legal advice and to assist with investigations.

Rob served for a number of years as a trainer in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the National Association of Prosecutor Coordinators, as well as the National Traffic Law Center of the National District Attorneys Association. He has also served on the faculty of DUI and Vehicular Homicide trial advocacy courses in Vermont, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. He has also served as an instructor in local and regional law enforcement training.

Rob is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee College of Law. He is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association. He is a Life Fellow of the Young Lawyers Division and has also been named as a Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation. In 2005, Rob received the President’s Award from the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference for service to his profession and community.
