Randall Beaty
Randall Beaty joined the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Laboratory Service in 1986 as a Criminalist, and was assigned to the Department's Breath Alcohol Testing Program where he spent eight years working as a Technical Supervisor in southeast Texas. In this capacity, he was responsible for instrument maintenance, repair, and calibration, as well as training and support to law enforcement officers and prosecutors. In 1994 he joined the management staff of the Forensic Breath Alcohol Laboratory. His primary responsibilities include formulating, designing, and implementing policy for the state breath alcohol testing program, and providing direct supervisory and managerial support for laboratory personnel.
Mr. Beaty has testified as an expert witness in hundreds of criminal trials involving the prosecution of intoxicated drivers, as well as civil litigation depositions and legislative committee hearings. He routinely consults with industry regarding forensic alcohol testing and workplace safety, most recently as an official member of the United States Working Group at the OIML Session in Paris, France in May 2005
In 2008 Randall Beaty was conferred with the Kurt M. Dubowski Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of chemical testing in workplace and traffic safety. Randall earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in which he studied chemistry and physics. Active in several professional organizations, he serves on the Executive Board of the National Safety Council Committee on Alcohol and Other Drugs. Additionally, he is a Past President and current Board member of the International Association for Chemical Testing.
